The second week of work was largely involving characterization such as BET and Raman spectroscopy. BET is a method of measuring the surface area per gram of sample, by measuring the rate of condensation of liquid nitrogen at very low temperatures. Raman spectroscopy is done by shining an infrared laser onto a sample, and measuring the emission spectrum, which can be used to determine certain chemical characteristics. I've also been working on developing an experimental procedure to finally synthesize my catalysts, after which I'll begin doing more characterization, as well as performance characterization.
